Major Melanie Watts of the Bowling Green Police Department is a single foster parent.
A part of her job used to be to accompany social services on child welfare checks. Melanie became frustrated in some of the conditions that children were living in.
She wanted to help. She wanted to adopt.
In August 2011 Melanie received a phone call from Social Services that they had a baby girl, Lexie, that needed a good home.
The first night Melanie had Lexie at her house, Lexie slept from 6 PM to 6 AM. “I think she was just happy to actually have a bed to sleep in."
In September 2012, Lexie’s birth mother gave birth to another baby girl named Abby. Watts took Abby in to her home, in order to keep the half-sisters together.
